Stephen Colbert Slams Trump’s Joint Session of Congress as ‘Filled With Useful Lies’ and ‘Applauded by Useless Idiots’: ‘Another Two Hours We’ll Never Get Back’

During tonight’s live broadcast of “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert recapped President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress and criticized many of the talking points made during the almost two-hour speech.

Before Colbert took the stage, an “Animaniacs” theme song parody called “The Maga Maniacs” played for the audience. Featuring cartoon versions of Trump, Vice President JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson, the song went like this: “It’s time for Maga Maniacs / Federal workers get the ax / DEI rollbacks / Putin can relax / We’re Maga Maniacs.”

After the song finished, Colbert appeared and quickly dove into Trump’s address, first poking fun at the speech’s theme.

“The theme of tonight’s speech was ‘The renewal of the American Dream,'” Colbert said. “Yeah, I don’t know if I want to sign up for the renewal. Can’t I just use a different email to get another free trial?”

Colbert also covered the expulsion of Texas Congressman Al Green, who was escorted out of the joint session after repeatedly interrupting Trump.

“Johnson called in the sergeant at arms to remove 77-year-old Texas Congressman Al Green,” Colbert said. “Some people questioned why so much muscle was needed to remove an old man with a cane. But it turns out it was for a serious reason. When security searched him, they found that he smuggled in a spine.”

Colbert wrapped his monologue by apologizing to the audience for making them watch Trump’s speech, adding, “That’s time you could have spent with your family not eating eggs.”

“So, there you go. Another 2 hours we’ll never get back,” Colbert said. “In the end, Trump’s first address to Congress was much like his first six weeks: Filled with useful lies, and applauded by useless idiots.”
